Q:Not sure how well you speak english, but, is street art and graffiti legal in Sao Paulo? Do people do that art in day light? I enjoy your posts, and was just curious. Keep it up!
Hey there! Graffiti and street art are currently well-accepted in São Paulo, differently then ‘pixação’ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixação) which I don’t even take pictures of. Usually most graffiti and street art are done in daylight, especially when you have permission from the owner of the wall. The second time I was doing it myself, the police passed by and didn’t even stop to check us out. The reaction from the community was great, they encourage artists to draw nice things instead of ‘pixação’. They even recognize some drawings from other streets and congratulate the artist. On the legal side, I have to research more, but for the past couple of years I haven’t heard of any artists ‘going for a coffee’ with the sheriff just because they were painting a wall :) There are neighborhoods though that I believe the permission is more mandatory than others. If you have any other questions or feedback, I would enjoy to see! Thank you!!
